Customers can opt in now to get the new CUD experience. For more information, see [Spend-based CUDs\n| program improvements](/docs/cuds-multiprice).\n\nSpend-based committed use discounts (CUDs) provide a discount in exchange for\nyour commitment to spend a minimum amount for a product or service. The discount\napplies to the set of [eligible resources](/docs/cuds#spend_based_commitments)\nfor the service.\n\n[Learn about the products covered by spend-based commitments](/docs/cuds#spend_based_commitments).\n\nYou must purchase separate spend-based commitments for each Google Cloud\nservice that CUDs are available for. The CUDs apply to\neligible usage in any projects that the Cloud Billing account pays for.\n\nPurchase spend-based commitments\n--------------------------------\n\nYou can purchase spend-based CUDs in the Google Cloud console.\nThe discounts are applied to eligible usage in the applicable\nregions.\n| **Caution:** Spend-based commitments are purchased at the Cloud Billing account level, and you **can't** [cancel](#canceling_commitments) the commitments, or change the Cloud Billing account that the commitments are for.\n\nAfter you purchase a commitment, the commitment goes into effect based on which\npart of the hour it was purchased. Commitments purchased earlier than 10\nminutes before the end of the hour start at the beginning of the next hour.\nOtherwise, they start at the beginning of the hour after next. These times\nassume your local time zone. For example:\n\nIf you buy a commitment before the last 10 minutes of any hour (at :49 or\nearlier), your discount starts at the beginning of the next hour. If you buy a\ncommitment within the last 10 minutes of any hour (at :50 or later), your\ndiscount will skip an hour and start at the beginning of the hour after next.\n\nUsing this example, a commitment purchased at 4:51 PM starts at 6:00 PM, and a\ncommitment purchased at 4:49 PM starts at 5:00 PM.\n\n### Permissions required\n\nTo purchase or manage spend-based CUDs for your\nCloud Billing account, you must be a [Billing Account\nAdministrator](/billing/docs/how-to/billing-access).\n\n### Steps to purchase\n\nTo purchase spend-based committed use discounts, complete the following steps:\n\n1. Sign in to the Google Cloud console.\n\n [Sign in to Google Cloud console](https://console.cloud.google.com/)\n2. Open the Google Cloud console **Navigation menu**\n menu,\n and then select **Billing**.\n\n If you have more than one Cloud Billing account, do one of the\n following:\n - To manage Cloud Billing for the current project, select **Go to linked billing account**.\n - To locate a different Cloud Billing account, select **Manage billing accounts** and then choose the account that you want to manage.\n3. You can purchase commitments from the committed use discount [dashboard](/billing/docs/how-to/cud-analysis-spend-based#understanding_dashboard)\n or [analysis\n report](/billing/docs/how-to/cud-analysis-spend-based#understanding_analysis).\n\n 1. To view the dashboard select **Committed use discounts (CUDs)** from the\n **Cloud Billing** menu.\n\n 2. To purchase a commitment select **Purchase**.\n\n4. Select the **Product**.\n\n5. Enter a **name** for your commitment.\n\n6. Choose a **commitment term** of 1 or 3 years, the duration for which you are\n charged for the commitment.\n\n7. Enter your hourly **commitment amount**, in terms of equivalent discount\n spend.\n\n - This amount represents the equivalent of discount costs that you would have incurred with the committed use discount.\n - You can view the **commitment fee** , your recurring charge, in the **commitment summary**.\n - You can view the estimated savings when your commitments are fully\n utilized in the **commitment summary**.\n\n | In the legacy CUDs program, your commitment amount is the on-demand price instead. For more information about the differences between the legacy and new spend-based CUDs program, see [Spend-based CUDs program improvements](/docs/cuds-multiprice).\n8. Read the [Service Specific Terms regarding Committed\n Units](/terms/service-terms)\n\n9. Review everything you entered to verify you're committing to the correct\n amount. If the product requires commitment within a specific region, make\n sure that you have also selected the correct region.\n\n10. To preview your purchase, click the **Purchase** button. This does not\n process the actual purchase, but rather prepares a summary for you to review\n before finalizing.\n\n11. To finalize your purchase, review the commitment summary and click\n **Purchase** again.\n\nRepeat these steps for each service that you want to purchase a commitment for.\n\nView commitments\n----------------\n\nYou can view the details of your spend-based committed use discounts in the\nGoogle Cloud console commitment dashboard or analysis report, described in\n[Analyze the effectiveness of your CUDs](/billing/docs/how-to/analyze-cuds).\n\nFor an explanation of the commitment dashboard and analysis report, see\n[Understand the CUD analysis report](/billing/docs/how-to/analyze-cuds#understanding_analysis)\nand\n[Understanding the analysis\nreport](/billing/docs/how-to/cud-analysis-spend-based#understanding_analysis).\n\nCancel commitments\n------------------\n\nYou can't cancel the commitments you've purchased. You must pay the agreed upon\nmonthly amount for the duration of the commitment. Your commitment and the\nresources covered by it aren't affected by future changes to the standard\nprices for those resources.\n\nIf you accidentally purchased a commitment or made a mistake configuring your\ncommitment, contact [Cloud Billing\nSupport](/support/billing)\nfor help.\n\nHow committed use discounts work\n--------------------------------\n\nYour spend-based committed use discount is applied to the eligible usage each\nhour.\n\nIf you use more in the hour than you committed to, the overage is charged at\nyour regular on-demand rate. If you use less in the hour than you committed to,\nyou underutilize your commitment and don't realize your full discount.\n\nTo understand how your commitment fees and credits are applied to your\nCloud Billing account and projects, see [Attribution of committed use\ndiscount fees and\ncredits](/docs/cuds-attribution).\n\nUnderstanding your bill, invoice, and exported data\n---------------------------------------------------\n\nTo understand spend-based CUDs in your bill, invoice, and\nexported data, see [Analyze the effectiveness of your CUDs](/billing/docs/how-to/analyze-cuds).\n\nAPIs and reference\n------------------\n\n|\n| **Preview**\n|\n|\n| This product or feature is subject to the \"Pre-GA Offerings Terms\" in the General Service Terms section\n| of the [Service Specific Terms](/terms/service-terms#1).\n|\n| Pre-GA products and features are available \"as is\" and might have limited support.\n|\n| For more information, see the\n| [launch stage descriptions](/products#product-launch-stages).\n\nYou can purchase commitments for VMware Engine and\nCompute Engine flexible commitments by using the Cloud Commerce Consumer\nProcurement API.
