Usage costs are calculated using list prices and any contracted\nor negotiated pricing that's available for your Cloud Billing\naccount. Cost totals are gross costs and exclude [committed use discounts](/billing/docs/how-to/cud-analysis)\nand other credits.\n\nThe **Anomalies** dashboard displays all cost anomalies associated with your\nprojects, within the linked billing account. You can use the **Anomalies**\ndashboard to do the following:\n\n- Investigate the root causes of anomalies.\n- Customize your view by setting a cost impact threshold amount.\n- Set up automated alerts and notifications for detected anomalies.\n- Provide feedback on detected anomalies to improve the tool's accuracy.\n\nAnomalies can only be detected for projects with at least six months\nof historical spend.\n\nFor reseller accounts and subaccounts, this feature is only available if\nyou enable project-based cost visibility. Resellers can only view\nanomalies for their projects. To view anomalies for a subaccount, you must\nswitch to the subaccount. To enable project-based cost visibility, contact\n[Cloud Billing Support](/billing/docs/support).\n\nPermissions required for this task\n----------------------------------\n\nYou can view and manage anomalies for all projects on a Cloud Billing account\nor for individual projects. To manage anomalies for all projects on a\nCloud Billing account, you need permissions on the billing account. To view\nanomalies for a specific project, you need billing-specific permissions on the\nproject.\n\nAccess the Anomalies dashboard\n------------------------------\n\nTo access the **Anomalies** dashboard, complete the following steps for your\naccess level:\n\nAnalyze root causes of anomalies\n--------------------------------\n\nEach anomaly includes a granular **Root cause analysis** panel that helps\npinpoint the source of the cost spike. To open the panel and view the details\nof an anomaly, click the anomaly date.\n\nThe **Root cause analysis** panel shows the top services, regions, and SKUs that\ncontributed to the spike in spend. If the anomaly is equally spread across\nservices, regions, or SKUs, you won't\nsee any top contributors in the **Root cause analysis** panel.\n\nClick any of the links in the **Root cause analysis** panel to open a Billing\nReport that's filtered by the project you're viewing, and also by service,\nregion, or SKU, depending on the link you select.\n\nIn the **Root cause analysis** panel, you can also share feedback about the\nanomaly to help\n[optimize anomaly detection](#optimize-anomaly-detection).\n\nManage anomalies\n----------------\n\nBilling Account Administrators can set threshold and notification preferences\nfor all anomalies. On the **Anomalies** page, click\nsettings\n**Manage anomalies** to customize thresholds and notifications.\n\n### Set a cost impact threshold\n\nTo focus on cost anomalies that are significant to you, set a cost impact\nanomaly threshold. The threshold amount filters your view to show only\nanomalies exceeding a certain cost deviation (for example, $200). If you\n[set up notifications](#set-notifications),\nyou also receive alerts when a cost anomaly crosses the threshold value.\n\nThis threshold value is in your billing account's local currency and can only\ncontain positive numeric values, including up to two decimal places. You can't\nuse negative or non-numeric values.\n\nFor users with billing-account-level access, the threshold amount automatically\nsets a `Cost impact` filter on the anomalies list, showing only anomalies that\ncross the cost impact threshold. You can remove the `Cost impact` filter to see\nall anomalies, but the filter is reapplied the next time you visit the page.\n\nUsers with project-level access can view all detected anomalies for their\nproject. For project-level users, the `Cost impact` filter isn't automatically\nset on the anomalies list, but you can manually set filters in the\n**Anomalies** dashboard.\n| **Note:** The threshold value applies to all notifications (email and Pub/Sub), regardless of the IAM roles of the recipients.\n\n### Set up notifications\n\nOn the **Manage anomalies** page, you can set how you want to be notified about\nanomalies that go above your cost impact threshold. You can configure email or\n[Pub/Sub](/pubsub/docs/publish-receive-messages-console)\nnotifications.\n\nYou can change your notification settings at any time.\nNotification configurations apply to all projects on your billing account.\nYou can't set up notifications for a subset of projects.\n\n#### Set up email notifications\n\nTo set up email notifications, complete the following steps:\n\n1. From the **Anomalies** dashboard, click settings **Manage anomalies**.\n2. If you haven't already, enter an **Anomaly threshold** value for **Cost impact**. This amount is the threshold value that triggers notifications.\n3. In the **Email notifications** section, set the email recipients\n (**Billing admins** , **Essential contacts** , or **Project owners** ) and the\n frequency of emails for each recipient (every **Individual anomaly** or a\n **Daily summary**).\n\n - For **Essential contacts** , selecting **Individual anomaly** sends notifications to the [designated Essential Contacts](/resource-manager/docs/managing-notification-contacts), in the *Billing* category, for the *project*.\n - For **Essential contacts** , selecting **Daily summary** sends notifications to the [designated Essential Contacts](/resource-manager/docs/managing-notification-contacts), in the *Billing* category, for the *organization*.\n - **Project owners** can receive notifications only for individual anomalies on projects that they own.\n4. Click **Save**.\n\n#### Set up Pub/Sub notifications\n\nTo set up Pub/Sub notifications for anomalies, complete the steps in\n[Set up programmatic notifications](/billing/docs/how-to/budgets-programmatic-notifications).\n\nFor details about the JSON schema of Pub/Sub notifications for\nanomalies, see\n[Notification format](/billing/docs/how-to/budgets-programmatic-notifications#anomaly-notifications_2).\n\nOptimize anomaly detection\n--------------------------\n\nThe AI-powered anomaly detection algorithm constantly learns and improves, but\nyour feedback helps it adapt faster to your business needs. To provide feedback,\ncomplete the following steps:\n\n1. In the list of anomalies, click the date of an anomaly to open its **Root cause analysis** panel.\n2. For **Is this an anomaly?** , select one of the following options:\n 1. **Yes, it's an unexpected cost increase**: Select this option if the anomaly is unexpected and an unintended cost increase.\n 2. **Yes, but it's an expected cost increase**: Select this option if the anomaly is an expected cost increase to meet your business needs. To help Google's anomaly detection models adapt, you can provide more context around the specific business reason for the anomaly (for example, if you have active migrations underway, are using new Google Cloud resources, or if the cost increase is temporary).\n 3. **No, the cost impact is insignificant**: Select this option if the anomaly has a cost impact that you don't consider to be significant.\n3. Click **Submit feedback**.\n\nAfter you submit your feedback, it's recorded with a timestamp.\n\nTo change previously submitted feedback, complete the following steps:\n\n1. Open the **Root cause analysis** panel.\n2. Change your selection using the provided options.\n3. Click **Submit feedback**.\n\nRelated topics\n--------------\n\n- [Set up programmatic notifications](/billing/docs/how-to/budgets-programmatic-notifications)\n- [Analyze billing data and cost trends with Reports](/billing/docs/how-to/reports)\n- [Create, edit, or delete budgets and budget alerts](/billing/docs/how-to/budgets)"]]
