Dieses Dokument bietet einen Überblick über den End of Life-Prozess (EOS-Prozess) für Ubuntu-LTS-Betriebssysteme, die auf Google Cloudausgeführt werden.
EOS-Versionen
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal): EOS am 31. Mai 2025.
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic): EOS am 31. Mai 2023.
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial): EOS am 30. April 2021.
Wie wirkt sich EOS auf meine vorhandenen VM-Instanzen aus?
Ihre aktuellen VMs, auf denen die EOS-Versionen ausgeführt werden, sind nicht betroffen. Nach dem EOS-Datum können Sie Ihre vorhandenen VMs, die diese Images verwenden, weiterhin starten oder beenden.
Ihre Projekte können jedoch gefährdet sein, weil Sie eine Ubuntu-Version ausführen, die keine Sicherheitsupdates mehr erhält.
Was sollte ich wissen?
Nach diesem Datum treten die folgenden Änderungen in Kraft:
EOS-Ubuntu-Versionen sind weiterhin verfügbar, werden jedoch als verworfen markiert.
Für Ihre bestehenden VMs steht begrenzter technischer Support über Google Cloudzur Verfügung.
Evaluieren und verschieben Sie Ihre Compute Engine-VMs vor dem EOS-Datum entweder zu Ubuntu 22.04 LTS oder Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Direkte Upgrades von Cloud-Images von LTS zu LTS werden von Canonical unterstützt.

Mit einem Ubuntu Advantage-Abo von Canonical erhältst du erweiterte Sicherheitswartungen.
Für erweiterte VMs mit angehängten Ubuntu Advantage-Abos (UA) wird eine erweiterte Sicherheitswartung (ESM) bereitgestellt. Canonical ESM für Ubuntu LTS bietet mindestens drei zusätzliche Jahre Sicherheitspatches.
ESM mit Ubuntu Pro
Google und Canonical arbeiten gemeinsam an der ESM-Registrierung für die Gewährleistung der Sicherheit durch Ubuntu Pro in Compute Engine. Dadurch wird sichergestellt, dass Sie nicht sofort ein Upgrade auf neuere Ubuntu-Versionen machen müssen.
Ubuntu Pro ist ein Premium-Image, das jetzt mit Compute Engine verfügbar ist. Für Premium-Images fallen zusätzliche Lizenzgebühren für die Ausführung in Compute Engine an. Durch ein Upgrade auf Ubuntu Pro werden ESM für neue Ubuntu Pro LTS-VMs mit stündlicher Abrechnung als Alternative zu einem jährlichen UA-Abo aktiviert.
