Existing MQL dashboards and alerts will continue to work, and you will still be able to create MQL dashboards and alerts using the Cloud Monitoring API.\n\nWe recommend moving to [PromQL](/monitoring/promql), the\nopen-source standard for querying time series. PromQL offers similar\nfunctionality to MQL, with a wider user base and more community\nresources.\n\nKey points and dates\n--------------------\n\n**MQL is not being shut down**. You will still be able to create and\nrun MQL queries, and dashboards and alerting policies that\nuse MQL queries will continue to work.\n\n### October 22, 2024\n\nOn October 22, 2024, the following MQL usability features\nwill be turned off:\n\n- Inline autocompletion in the MQL code editor. The editor will no longer suggest completion strings for metric names, resource names, functions, operators, syntactic elements, label keys and values, and project IDs when you type Monitoring Query Language queries.\n- Conversion of queries between the Metrics Explorer query builder and MQL.\n\n### July 22, 2025\n\nOn July 22, 2025, the following will occur:\n\n- Google Cloud customer support for cases involving writing valid MQL ends.\n\nShortly after July 22, 2025, the following will occur:\n\n- You will no longer be able to create new MQL charts, dashboards, or alerting policies by using the Google Cloud console. You can still create dashboards and alerting policies with MQL queries by using the Cloud Monitoring API.\n\nRequired and recommended actions\n--------------------------------\n\n**No action is required** to continue using your existing MQL\nassets, and you can create new MQL assets by using the\nCloud Monitoring API.\n\n**We recommend that you begin using PromQL** or the interactive\nquery builder for dashboards, alerting policies, and other workflows.\nFor more information about using PromQL to create Cloud Monitoring\ncharts, dashboards, and alerting policies, see\n[PromQL in Cloud Monitoring](/monitoring/promql)."]]
