When the policy status is **Ready**, you can modify\nall settings except for the policy name and region.\n\nWhen a volume uses an Active Directory policy, the policy status changes to\n**In use** . When the policy status is **In use** , you can't change the\nfollowing settings until all volumes using the policy are deleted and the\npolicy status transitions back to **Ready**:\n\n- Domain name\n\n- Organizational unit\n\n- `NetBIOS` name prefix\n\nConsiderations\n--------------\n\nChanging the `NetBIOS` name prefix is disruptive to existing volumes\nwhich use the policy because it changes the hostname of the SMB Universal Naming\nConvention (UNC) path, which renders existing client mappings stale. Clients must\nthen remap the volumes using the new UNC path.\n\nEdit an Active Directory policy\n-------------------------------\n\nUse the following instructions to edit an Active Directory policy using the\nGoogle Cloud console or Google Cloud CLI. \n\n### Console\n\nUse the following instructions to update an Active Directory policy in the\nGoogle Cloud console:\n\n1. Go to the **NetApp Volumes** page in the Google Cloud console.\n\n [Go to NetApp Volumes](https://console.cloud.google.com/netapp/volumes)\n2. Select **Active Directory policies**.\n\n3. Click the name of the Active Directory policy you want to edit.\n\n4. Click **Edit**.\n\n5. Change the required fields.\n\n6. Click **Save**. The policy list page appears.\n\n7. Click the policy you edited. The policy details page appears.\n\n8. [Test the connection to the Active Directory service](/netapp/volumes/docs/configure-and-use/active-directory/test-ad-policy-connection).\n\n### gcloud\n\nIn the Google Cloud CLI, edit an Active Directory policy: \n\n```json\n gcloud netapp active-directories update\n```\n\nFor more information on additional optional flags, see\n[Google Cloud SDK documentation on Active Directory update](/sdk/gcloud/reference/netapp/active-directories/update).\n\nDelete an Active Directory policy\n---------------------------------\n\nYou can only delete an Active Directory policy when the policy status is\n**Ready** . When an Active Directory policy attaches to a storage pool,\nthe policy status transitions to **In use** . You need to delete all pools using\nthe policy first, before it transitions back to **Ready**.\n\nWhat's next\n-----------\n\n[Connect to Managed Service for Microsoft Active Directory](/netapp/volumes/docs/configure-and-use/active-directory/connect-to-managed-service-for-microsoft-ad)."]]
