You can also collect historical performance\nand networking information, if this is available at the hypervisor level.\n\nTo perform an automated one-time collection, download and run the\nMigration Center discovery client CLI, then scan your infrastructure.\nFinally, export the collected configuration and performance data to\nMigration Center.\nTo learn how data collection works with the `mcdc` CLI, see\n[Migration Center discovery client CLI overview](/migration-center/docs/discovery-client-cli-overview).\n\n### Automated continuous collection\n\nAutomated continuous collection lets you get the full information about\nyour infrastructure over a period of time with scheduled collection\ncapabilities.\n\nTo perform continuous collection, install the discovery client on a\nWindows machine and allow it to periodically scan your infrastructure and\ngather configuration and performance data.\nTo learn how automatic data collection works, see\n[Migration Center discovery client overview](/migration-center/docs/discovery-client-overview).\n\n### Manual data import\n\nManual data import lets you fully control which data to upload to\nMigration Center.\n\nYou can manually import data into Migration Center with the\nfollowing methods:\n\n- Collect data from your infrastructure hosted on other cloud providers\n with automated scripts, and upload it to Migration Center.\n For more details, see [how to import data from other cloud\n providers](/migration-center/docs/import-data-cloud-providers).\n\n- Manually fill in template tables with your infrastructure data, including\n specifications, performance, and disk data, and upload them to\n Migration Center.\n For more details, see [how to upload manually generated\n tables](/migration-center/docs/import-data-tables).\n\n- Upload your infrastructure data generated with RVTools directly into\n Migration Center. For more details, see\n [how to import data from RVTools](/migration-center/docs/import-data-rvtools).\n\n### Choose your data collection tool\n\nThe following table can help you choose between the data collection tools that\nMigration Center offers. You can also use multiple tools for your\nassessment.\nFor example, you can start with a manual or one-time collection,\nthen switch to the continuous collection after you get an initial view of\nyour infrastructure.\nOr, you might have a heterogeneous environment that requires different methods\nto assess everything that you want to migrate.\n\n^1^ Use the `mcdc` CLI for Windows if you need to collect\ndata directly from Windows hosts.\n\nSecurity and privacy\n--------------------\n\nFor every server in your existing environment, Migration Center collects\nthe following information:\n\n- Machine information\n- Configuration data\n- Utilization data\n- Network dependencies\n- Installed software\n\nThe breadth of data collected depends on the collection method you select,\nas well as any security settings that are applied during setup.\n\nOther than IP addresses, Migration Center doesn't collect personally\nidentifiable information (PII) or data subject to PCI or\nHIPAA compliance requirements.\nMigration Center doesn't collect data from within your applications\nor file storage.\nFor more information about the data collected, see\n[Collection methods](/migration-center/docs/collection-methods).\n\nAll collected data is used solely to analyze your IT infrastructure for a\ncloud assessment and migration plan.\nYour data is never sold to any third parties.\n\nWhat's next\n-----------\n\n- Learn how data collection works with the [discovery client](/migration-center/docs/discovery-client-overview)."]]
